FAQs

Victorian furniture spans the reign of Queen Victoria from 1837 to 1901, characterised by robust construction, practical forms, and a preference for rich timbers such as walnut and mahogany.

These pieces typically utilised solid timber framing with veneered panels, dovetailed drawer construction, and turned wooden knobs, often incorporating secondary woods like pine or oak for internal components.

Authenticity is identified through hand-cut dovetail joints, traditional timber shrinkage patterns, hand-turned elements, and period-appropriate brass or wooden hardware without modern fixings.

Pairing dark wood antique pieces with neutral walls, minimalist lighting, and modern textiles creates a balanced scheme that highlights the historical texture and grain of the timber.

Maintain walnut surfaces by dusting with a dry microfiber cloth, avoiding direct sunlight and excessive humidity fluctuations, and occasionally applying natural beeswax to nourish the wood.
