Victorian, Large Pair Of Hunting Scene Engraved Mixing Rummers
Status:This item has been sold Sold by:The World is Made of Glass Ltd.
This is a pair of very large, mouth-blown, late Victorian/Edwardian ovoid bowl mixing rummer glasses, beautifully wheel-engraved with hunting and riding scenes and dating from the turn of the 19th/20th centuries, c1900.
The glasses are in excellent condition for their age. This means, of course, that they show age related wear and tear to the rims of the feet consistent with some one hundred plus years of use. They have rough pontil marks on the underside of the feet.
The glasses have ovoid-shaped bowls measuring 15.5 cm. (6.2 inches) in diameter at the rims. One of the bowls is wheel-engraved with riders and hounds in pursuit of foxes; the other with two riders within an oblong cartouche surrounded by trailing, fruiting vines. The bowls sit on capstan stems and shallow conical feet which measure 13 cm. (5.2 inches) in diameter. The glasses are 21.2 cm (8.5 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. The glas...s with the vine engraving has a small broken bubble on the inside of the bowl at the top right corner of the cartouche.
They are made from lead metal weighing 1.6 kg. (~ 3 lb. 8 oz.) each.
