Georgian plain stem wine glasses typically feature a simple, straight-sided or drawn stem without air bubbles, twists, or facet-cutting, reflecting the dominant manufacturing styles of the mid-eighteenth century.

These pieces were primarily handmade from lead glass or early flint glass, often exhibiting natural inclusions, pontil marks on the base, and a characteristic heavy feel due to the lead oxide content.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the pontil mark on the underside of the foot, the wear and tear consistent with age, the chemical composition of the lead glass, and the manufacturing characteristics typical of pre-industrial glasshouses.

Such historic glassware is typically displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, on open shelving with adequate lighting, or used as a focal point on a mantlepiece to add historical texture to a room.

Antique glass should always be hand-washed cautiously using lukewarm water and mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes, and never placed in a dishwasher to protect the delicate historical surface.
