Antique glassware should be washed strictly by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, never placed in a dishwasher, and dried immediately with a lint-free cloth to prevent water spotting and preserve the surface finish.

Antique glass looks striking when displayed in illuminated cabinets, on open shelving paired with modern ceramics to create contrast, or used functionally as single-stem flower vases on mantelpieces or side tables.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit features such as rough snapped pontil marks, surface wear consistent with age, subtle variations in wall thickness due to hand-blowing, and glass composition tests showing high lead oxide.

Wrythen or spiral-moulded glass was produced by blowing molten glass into a ribbed or patterned dip-mould, then twisting the gather while it was hot to create the distinctive diagonal pattern before shaping.

Early 18th-century Georgian glass is characterised by heavy lead content, often displaying characteristic tool marks, pontil scars on the base, and simple yet elegant forms influenced by contemporary drinking habits.
