An attractive and unusual late 19th century ''English Dial'' wall clock.
The 8 day duration, gut fusee movement with Anchor Recoil escapement and rectangular plates.
Behind a cream coloured, 11'' visible, flat painted iron dial with outer divided minute track, triangular hour points and inner, Roman hour numerals. Having blackened steel hands the hour of which is ''trefoil'' in shape. The dial is under a cast brass, hinged bezel with flat glass and silvered sight ring.
In a mahogany case with the usual pegged back box that has a side access door and also, a curved and cockbeaded door to the rounded bottom. The one-piece surround is attractively carved in acanthus leaf style and is of great colour and patina.
Dimensions: 17'' wide and high x 6'' deep.
Condition: The movement is overhauled but not restored therefore, carries a full guarantee - it has been cleaned, had wear removed, new line fitted and the escapement is set correctly. The dial is restored well and the bez
...el is good with a pleasing look of age to it as does the case. The case has been historiacally repaired and shows signs of wear, a crack to the surround (see Photograph) and shrinkage however, the French polished surface is original and of excellent colour and patina which serves well to show its antiquity - it would be a great shame to restore it and lose the original finish. None of the carving appears to be damaged or missing. The case is sound and over all, this is a good, original wall timepiece.
Price: The price is for the clock in guaranteed condition.
