This Victorian industrial bank of drawers stands with a tall, rectangular silhouette in painted grey wood. The piece is constructed from pine and finished in an aged grey paint, housing twenty individual small compartments arranged in six rows above a double drawer base. Each drawer possesses a small turned wooden knob handle in the centre. The structure displays an honest utilitarian aesthetic suited to workshop or office storage, with visible surface wear and variation in the painted finish across the numerous fronts. Measuring 140 cm high, 87 cm wide, and 37 cm deep, the unit provides substantial vertical storage capacity with a narrow footprint. In a contemporary home, this imposing cabinet functions as a characterful storage solution in a hallway, kitchen, study, or utility room for organising small items, stationery, or craft supplies while contributing a strong industrial visual accent.

FAQs

A bank of drawers is a utility cabinet containing multiple small compartments, historically used in pharmacies, haberdasheries, and workshops to sort tools, herbs, or small components.

These pieces were typically constructed from durable softwoods or hardwoods such as pine, oak, or mahogany, often finished with paint, stain, or wax, and fitted with turned wooden or cast metal knobs.

Authentic period examples feature hand-cut dovetail or dado joinery, natural wear around handles, original runner wear inside drawer cavities, and age-consistent patination on painted surfaces.

A tall multi-drawer unit functions effectively as a focal piece in hallways or living areas, contrasting against clean contemporary lines while offering organised storage.

Clean surfaces using a soft dry cloth, avoiding abrasive chemicals that strip paint, and periodically lubricate drawer runners with clear beeswax to ensure smooth movement.
