Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This large industrial utility bank of drawers originates from 1920. Constructed from pine, the piece displays a warm golden brown timber finish with normal marks and scuffs from age and use, and stands in overall good, clean condition. The substantial cabinet features ten shallow drawers arranged in a twin-column configuration. Each drawer is fitted with angular wooden handles, distinctive trapezoidal wooden grips, and metal label card holders on the front. The structure measures 87 cm high, 178 cm wide, and 71 cm deep. This versatile folio chest or plan chest functions well as haberdashers drawers or artists drawers, and it could also be used in a kitchen or bathroom in a contemporary home. The low-profile design provides ample surface area on top for display or workspace activities while offering organized storage below for flat items, craft supplies, linens, or general household utilities.

FAQs

Haberdashery cabinets and artists drawers were designed for commercial retail shops, printing houses, and workshops during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. They provided organised, shallow storage for ribbons, buttons, artwork, architectural plans, and specialist tools.

These utility units were predominantly crafted from durable hardwoods or close-grained softwoods such as pine, oak, mahogany, and pitch pine. The drawers often featured wooden runner systems, dovetail joinery, and metal label frames for indexing contents.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of period construction, such as hand-cut or early machine dovetails, natural wear on wooden runners, and original metal label holders. Internal drawer patina, drawer construction consistency, and historical maker marks also indicate age.

A large bank of drawers functions well as a focal statement piece in living rooms, hallways, or home offices. The wide flat top offers space for table lamps, ceramics, and framed art, while the drawers offer generous hidden storage.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the timber. Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources and moisture to prevent wood shrinkage or drawer sticking.
