Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the late 19th century, Aesthetic Movement and Anglo-Japanese furniture prioritized visual harmony, art for arts sake, and stylized natural forms. Influenced by Japanese decorative arts following the opening of trade, pieces frequently incorporate asymmetrical carvings, flora and fauna motifs, geometric framing, and decorative metalwork.

Victorian cabinetmakers primarily utilized high-grade hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, and oak, complemented by hand-cut joinery. Decorative components often featured cast or stamped brass hardware, bevelled glass or mirror plates, and hand-carved or incised timber panels.

Authentic pieces exhibit Period construction techniques, including hand-dovetailed joints, original slotted screws, and age-consistent oxidisation on brass fixtures. Design details such as spindled galleries, naturalistic carved panels depicting birds or botanicals, and Japanese-influenced lattice or panel arrangements confirm the movements influence.

Mount the cabinet above a console table or sideboard to create a focal point, pairing the warm timber tones with neutral wall backgrounds. Display small ceramics or decorative glassware on top of the gallery rail to complement the original Victorian aesthetic.

Dust regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth to clean around carved details. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year to nourish the timber, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners that may damage original lacquer or gilded finishes.
