A rummer is a traditional type of heavy drinking vessel that became popular in Britain during the late 18th and 19th centuries, frequently used for serving wine, ale, and punch.

Authentic pieces from this period were typically crafted from lead crystal or flint glass, often featuring hand-blown bowls combined with hand-cut or moulded ornamentation and applied or knop stems.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the pontil mark on the base, the weight and clarity of the lead glass, uneven hand-cut facets, and natural wear marks such as base scratching consistent with age.

These pieces can be displayed within a glass-fronted cabinet, used as distinctive candle holders on a mantelpiece, or incorporated into a table setting to introduce historical texture.

Antique glass should always be washed by hand in warm water using a mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes and harsh abrasive scrubbers to protect the delicate surface.
