Georgian glass encompasses styles produced during the reigns of the Hanoverian kings (1714-1830), characterised by lead metal content, heavy weight, and a transition from plain stems to intricate air twist, opaque twist, and later facet-cut designs.

These pieces were crafted from heavy lead crystal glass, blown into moulds or free-blown, and then meticulously hand-cut and wheel-engraved by skilled artisans using specialised abrasive wheels.

Authentic pieces feature characteristics such as pontil marks on the base, surface wear consistent with age, irregularities in the glass melt including tiny bubbles, and hand-cut facets with softer, worn edges rather than machine-sharp uniformity.

Displaying historical glassware on open shelving, within a glazed cabinet, or as a focal point on a sideboard adds tactile history and refined light refraction to contemporary spaces.

Wash antique glass strictly by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes and abrasive scourers, and never place them in a dishwasher.
