Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Louis XVI style clock garniture traditionally comprises a central mantel clock flanked by a pair of matching candelabra or vases. Originating in 18th-century France and widely revived throughout the 19th century, this style incorporates classical motifs, symmetrical proportions, and decorative gilt bronze mounts.

French garniture clock sets were typically constructed using cast bronze with mercury gilding, known as ormolu, often paired with decorative marble or porphyry bases. The clock mechanisms feature brass movements with pendulum escapements, paired with enamel or gilded dials.

Authentic 19th-century pieces feature hand-chased bronze castings, heavy physical weight, and refined detailing on sculptured figures and foliage. Look for maker stamps or serial numbers on the back plate of the movement and natural age-related patination within recessed areas.

Place the central clock in the middle of a fireplace mantelpiece or grand sideboard, positioning the matching candelabra symmetrically on either side. Frame the arrangement with a large giltwood wall mirror or artwork to create a structured classical focal point.

Dust the gilded bronze regularly with a soft dry brush or microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleansers that can strip the delicate gilding. Mechanical clock movements require periodic servicing by a specialist horologist every five to seven years to ensure smooth operation.
