Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Grand Tour bronze urns are nineteenth-century decorative metalworks created in Italy and across Europe as souvenirs for wealthy travelers undertaking the traditional Grand Tour. These pieces were cast as scaled replicas of famous classical Greek, Roman, and Etruscan vessels unearthed during archaeological excavations.

These vessels were primarily cast in bronze using lost-wax or sand-casting methods, often finished with a dark patination to mimic aged antiquities. The cast bronze urns were typically mounted onto square or stepped plinths made from imported marbles such as rouge marble, Nero Marquina, or Siena marble.

Authentic period examples display hand-chased details, crisp casting relief, and original surface patination showing natural wear along high points. Look for heavy, solid construction, threaded iron assembly rods beneath the base, and authentic period marble plinths showing age-appropriate edge wear.

A Grand Tour bronze urn functions as a sculptural centerpiece on a sideboard, console table, or fireplace mantel. Placing it against neutral plaster or painted walls allows its dark patina and silhouetted zoomorphic handles to contrast cleanly in a modern or traditional room scheme.

Clean the bronze surface gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth to remove dust, avoiding chemical cleaners or polished polishes that strip original patination. The marble base should be wiped with a damp cloth and sealed periodically with clear microcrystalline wax to preserve the stone from moisture and staining.
