This London quality longcase with rare Penny Moon, in pagoda top. Delightfully faded mahogany case, silk fretted sound aperture to the case top. Short grain moulding to the arch, supported by reeded and brass inlaid pillars. The trunk with very unusual ribbed columns to the sides, shaped flame mahogany door with boxwood inlay supported on a crossbanded, flame mahogany base. The dial of sublime quality with engraved oak leaf perimeter. The arch with Penny Moon and serpent spandrels and additional floral engraving over a chapter ring with fine half hour markers. The matted centre with ringed winding holes, engraved date aperture and seconds ring. Fine steel hands. All edged with oak leaf engravings and cornered and crowned mask spandrels. Signed HENRY SMITH. The high quality of the dial is more than matched by the five pillar movement, the pillars being knopped and finned in the manner of much earlier clocks. The 8 day movement striking bell. Brass capped weights. Overall flamboyant and... very impressive clock. Fully overhauled, one year guarantee.
