Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Imari porcelain originates from the town of Arita in Hizen province, Japan, and was exported heavily to Europe from the port of Imari during the Edo period. It is distinguished by its vibrant underglaze blue and overglaze iron red, gold, and green enamel palettes.

Imari pieces are crafted from high-fired white porcelain clay, hand-painted with cobalt blue under the glaze, then fired again before adding overglaze enamels such as iron red, turquoise, and gilding, followed by a final low-temperature fixation firing.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-thrown irregularities, iron-foot rims showing unglazed clay with signs of age-related oxidisation, and meticulous hand-painted details with tactile enamel layers rather than modern smooth transfer prints.

Large Imari vases make striking focal points when placed symmetrically on consoles, within empty architectural corners, or used as standalone decorative objects to introduce rich colour, pattern, and global heritage into a room.

Antique porcelain should be dusted gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and washed by hand only when necessary using lukewarm water and mild soap, avoiding harsh chemicals, abrasive scourers, and direct sunlight.
