Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Louis XV style bedside cabinet, dating from 1900, is constructed from dark brown quarter-veneered rosewood and fitted with a rose marble top. The piece stands 82 cm high, 38.5 cm wide, and 40 cm deep. It incorporates a single upper drawer with a small round black knob above a cabinet door featuring a central quarter-veneered pattern enclosed by raised wooden mouldings and secured with a small round black side knob. The interior is lined with white marble, and the underside of the cupboard rests above a finely carved decorative apron. The structure is supported by four tall, slender cabriole legs embellished with carved details at the shoulders and upper corners. In a modern interior, this versatile cabinet functions well as a bedside table or as a compact end table at the end of a sofa in a living room, bedroom, or hallway. The surface holds a lamp or small decorative objects, while the enclosed cabinet and drawer provide discreet storage for nighttime essentials, books, or personal items. The slim profile and raised legs occupy minimal floor space while introducing traditional French aesthetic character to compact or spacious rooms alike.

FAQs

Originating in 18th-century France, Louis XV style furniture is recognised for its Rococo influence, featuring asymmetrical organic forms, curved cabriole legs, and decorative timber veneering. Bedside cabinets of this era, historically termed tables de chevet, often incorporated marble surfaces and compact drawers or cupboards.

These cabinets were typically constructed using fine hardwoods such as walnut, oak, or kingwood, often enhanced with quarter-veneered or parquetry panels. Tops were frequently fitted with shaped marble slabs to protect the timber surface from spills and heat.

Authentic period construction features hand-cut dovetail joinery inside drawers, hand-carved cabriole legs, and unpolished or hand-cut marble undersides. Quarter-veneered patterns and matching grain configurations across doors and drawers also indicate skilled craftsmanship.

A Louis XV cabinet serves as an elegant accent piece when placed alongside contemporary upholstered seating or positioned in an entryway. The contrast between ornate Rococo carving and clean-lined modern decor creates visual balance within contemporary design schemes.

Dust the timber surfaces regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply high-grade beeswax polish periodically along the grain. Clean the marble top using a pH-neutral cleaner specifically formulated for natural stone, avoiding acidic substances that can etch the surface.
