This Georgian longcase clock dates from the 18th century and is made of mahogany, brass, and glass with a warm brown finish. The tall standing case incorporates a swan-neck pediment topped with a brass eagle finial, turned tapering pillars to the hood, and quarter columns flanking a long crossbanded figured mahogany trunk door with a shaped key escutcheon and flame mahogany veneer. The arched brass dial features a painted rolling moon phase function, engraved corner spandrels, a silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals, and an inset date wheel, while the entire cabinet stands on shaped bracket feet. The clock measures 249 cm high, 54 cm wide, and 25 cm deep. Suitable for placement in a hallway, reception room, or study, this traditional timepiece brings classic proportions and architectural presence to an interior. The clock functions as a striking freestanding focal point, adding vertical interest and historical character to a living space while maintaining practical timekeeping utility. The rich grain of the timber and the metallic gleam of the brass dial provide a warm, tactile quality suited to both formal and relaxed domestic settings.

Longcase clocks feature a tall wooden housing enclosing a pendulum-driven weight movement, frequently incorporating an eight-day mechanism and moon phase indicator set within the arched dial.

Cabinetmakers primarily utilised flame mahogany or oak cases fitted with solid brass dial plates, spandrels, and movement wheels, often accented with cast brass finials.

Key indicators include hand-engraved brass or silvered dials, cast brass spandrels, correct hand-cut gear teeth on the movement, and period-appropriate cabinet construction such as hand-cut dovetails and flame mahogany veneers.

A longcase clock creates a structural focal point in a hallway, stairwell, or dining room, providing verticality and historical balance alongside contemporary neutral decor or classic architectural mouldings.

Keep the clock away from direct heat sources and sunlight, dust the cabinet gently with a microfibre cloth, apply natural beeswax sparingly, and ensure the movement is serviced by a horologist every five to seven years.
