This French nineteenth-century carriage clock follows the style of the period, executed in polished brass, white enamel, and glass. The structure is rendered in a shiny gold finish, incorporating a hinged carrying handle at the top with a fluted grip, stepped mouldings along the top and base, and an engraved brass mask surrounding the white porcelain dial. Black Roman numerals mark the hours on the dial, paired with fine spade hands and bevelled glass panels. The piece measures 25 cm high, 14.5 cm wide, and 12 cm deep. Placement suits a mantelpiece, desk, or side table within a study, library, or drawing room, providing a functional timepiece and decorative object. The polished metal reflects surrounding light, while the visible dial and bevelled windows expose the inner mechanics. Routine placement involves flat interior surfaces away from direct moisture, operating as a standalone mantel accessory that requires only periodic winding.

Developed in the early nineteenth century in France, carriage clocks are portable spring-driven timepieces originally designed for travel, featuring top handles and rectangular glass cases.

These timepieces are constructed primarily from solid cast or gilded brass, thick bevelled glass panels, and porcelain or enamel dials over brass plates.

Authenticity is identified through maker stamps on the back movement plate, platform escapement details, heavy bevelled glass, and finely engraved brass masks around the dial.

Position the piece atop a fireplace mantelpiece, within a traditional bookshelf display, or on a dark wood executive desk to create an elevated focal point.

Dust the exterior glass and gilded brass frame gently with a dry microfibre cloth, avoid harsh chemical polishes that strip gilding, and have the mechanical movement serviced every five years by a qualified horologist.
