Eighteenth-century brass candlesticks typically feature cast construction with knopped stems, multi-component assembly, and shaped bases such as square, octagonal, or scalloped designs, reflecting the prevailing neoclassical or baroque aesthetics of the period.

These items were predominantly made from yellow brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, produced using sand casting or lost-wax casting methods before being turned on a lathe for finishing and polishing.

Authenticity is determined by examining construction markers such as casting flaws, file marks, patination, wear patterns on the base, and whether the stem is cast in separate sections that are threaded or pinned together rather than being cast as a single modern unit.

They can be placed on a mantelpiece, dining table, or sideboard to add metallic warmth and historical contrast, pairing effectively with both minimalist modern furnishings and traditional decors.

Preservation requires dusting with a soft, dry cloth and avoiding abrasive commercial metal cleaners that strip the historical patination. Wax can occasionally be applied to protect the surface from oxidation.
