Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 18th century French Provincial buffet de corps is an original painted wooden piece rendered in a distressed cream finish. Standing 253 cm high, 155 cm wide, and 60 cm deep, the two-tier storage unit is built with fielded panel doors, arched door frames, brass escutcheons, and a shaped apron at the base. The upper section features a projecting cornice moulding above a pair of tall cabinet doors, while the lower section includes three small drawers set over two matching lower cabinet doors with vertical brass handles. Visible signs of age include worn paintwork across the timber surfaces and brass hardware fittings. Suitable for use in a dining room, kitchen, or living space today, the tall cabinet provides substantial storage capacity for tableware, linens, or books. The neutral cream colour and rustic French chateau aesthetic complement traditional, rustic, and eclectic interiors alike. The substantial proportions make it a commanding focal point against any main wall within a home.

FAQs

A buffet de corps, also known as a buffet deux corps, is a traditional French two-part cabinet featuring a deeper lower sideboard section topped by a slightly recessed upper cupboard section.

These cabinets were typically constructed from local hardwoods such as oak, walnut, or fruitwood, as well as softwoods, and were frequently finished with milk paint or gesso topped with long brass or iron hardware fitments.

Authentic pieces generally display layered paint wear around handles and edges, hand-chiseled mortise and tenon joinery, hand-forged or cast brass escutcheons, and natural timber movement beneath the painted surface.

A painted cabinet serves as a focal storage piece in a dining room, kitchen, or living area, pairing naturally with natural linen textiles, stone accents, and understated contemporary decor.

Original painted finishes should be dusted regularly with a soft, dry cloth and protected from direct sunlight or moisture; harsh chemical cleaners should be avoided to preserve historic patina.
