This early 18th-century Georgian hanging cupboard is a rustic farmhouse wall-mounted storage piece constructed from oak with iron and brass hardware in a warm brown colour. The rectangular body features a single solid timber door secured by two hand-forged black iron H-hinges on the left side, showing visible wear and age to the grain and fixings. Towards the right side of the door sits a circular brass ring handle alongside a keyhole escutcheon, while a small wooden turn button latch is attached to the right-side frame near the slightly ajar opening. The exposed timber exhibits rich grain patterns, natural knots, and subtle surface distress throughout the exterior panels. Measuring approximately 60 cm by 55 cm, this compact wall cabinet is suited for display and storage in a kitchen, hallway, or narrow wall space within a traditional interior. It provides practical vintage storage while preserving primitive architectural character from the early 1700s period.

A hanging cupboard, historically known as a mural cupboard, is a compact wall-mounted cabinet designed during the 18th century to store items such as spices, medicines, or candles out of reach of damp and pests.

These cabinets were constructed using dense local hardwoods, primarily European oak, held together with hand-cut joinery and wooden pegs, accompanied by hand-forged iron hinges and latches.

Authentic pieces feature signs of hand-planed timber, irregular hand-forged ironwork, peg construction, and uneven wear patterns around handles and hinges that reflect centuries of use.

Mount the cabinet in a hallway, kitchen, or alcove to create a focal point that contrasts warm, aged timber textures against neutral wall paint while serving as practical storage.

Keep the timber clean by dusting with a lint-free cloth and applying beeswax sparingly once or twice a year, ensuring the piece is kept away from damp conditions and direct heat radiators.
