This 18th-century Georgian longcase clock stands at a height of 217.5 cm, with a width of 52.7 cm at the top of the hood and a depth of 24 cm at the base. Fashioned from mahogany with brass and glass, the piece displays a warm brown tone across its solid case, highlighted by flame mahogany veneers to the trunk door and plinth panel, alongside an oak back. The hood holds two brass ball finials, glazed windows to the sides with canted corner details, and original hinges and locks. The arched brass dial contains a silvered chapter ring, decorative mask and foliate corner spandrels, a separate calendar wheel and seconds hand, and an arch featuring a strike or silent mechanism. Positioned on a floor against a wall in a home interior, the clock functions as a practical timekeeper while serving as a decorative focal point in a hallway, landing, or living room. The slim silhouette suits vertical spaces, bringing traditional English country house character to the room. The original spun glass sits within the hood door, complemented by the brass hardware and the distinct grain patterns of the wood veneer throughout the upright structure.

Longcase clocks, commonly known as grandfather clocks, are tall, weight-driven pendulum timepieces enclosed in wooden cases, produced extensively throughout Great Britain during the Georgian period.

Craftsmen utilised dense hardwoods such as flame mahogany, oak, or walnut for the casing, combined with cast brass dials, silvered chapter rings, steel hands, and iron weights.

Authentic Georgian examples typically feature hand-engraved brass or painted arched dials, eight-day or thirty-hour brass movement mechanisms, cast spandrels, and hand-cut joinery within the case.

Position the clock as an architectural focal point in an entrance hall, dining room, or drawing room, balancing its tall silhouette alongside contemporary artwork or understated seating.

Keep the timber casing positioned away from direct heat sources and dampness, apply high-quality beeswax to the wood casing periodically, and engage a qualified horologist to service the internal movement mechanism.
