Exhibit Antiques has dated this Georgian Glass Wine Carafe to the Georgian era.
A rare Georgian Regency glass wine carafe dating to c1835.
The main body is pillar-moulded and tapers down to a polished pontil.

Historical Context
The pillar moulding to the bowl was intended to help keep the contents cooler by reducing the transfer of ambient room temperature to the body of the vessel. This same design can be seen in pillar-moulded “Newcastle” type decanters, as well as in Scottish whisky measures, dating broadly to the 1830–1840 period.

We have handled many measures and decanters in this style; however, carafes of this type are very rare. Suitable for either wine or water, this example holds approximately a full bottle at 75cl. We cant recall seeing another example with the annulated collars.
