This Victorian wall clock originates from around 1900 and exhibits a compact golden oak case with a concave and convex moulded wooden surround. The warm brown timber houses a circular white painted dial featuring black Roman numerals, a slow and fast adjuster positioned beneath the twelve o'clock mark, blued steel spade hands, and a protective glass face held inside a polished brass bezel. Visible structural hardware includes small mounting feet at the base and a side hinge latch on the bezel. The piece measures 24 cm by 24 cm with a depth of 10 cm. Suitable for period home interiors, the clock mounts securely on narrow wall spaces in a gentleman's library, study, hallway or sitting room. The classic design coordinates easily with traditional wood furniture, bookcases and neutral interior palettes while providing a functional timepiece for everyday use.

FAQs

A dial wall clock is a circular timepiece defined by a clear round face housed within a turned or moulded wooden surround, often fitted with a brass bezel and glass front. Originating in Great Britain during the nineteenth century, these wall-mounted clocks were widely installed in commercial, public, and residential environments.

Victorian dial wall clocks typically feature solid timber surrounds made from oak, mahogany, or walnut, housing a painted iron or enamelled dial. The protective front bezel is generally fabricated from brass, holding a flat or convex glass pane over mechanical brass movements.

Authentic nineteenth-century examples display hand-painted or printed Roman numerals, heavy cast brass bezels with functional hinges, and hand-turned wooden surrounds showing natural ageing or oxidisation. The internal movement typically consists of brass plates with a pendulum or fusee mechanism rather than modern quartz components.

An antique dial clock can be mounted as a focal point within a hallway, study, or kitchen. Positioning the piece alongside modern art or integrated into a gallery wall creates an appealing contrast between historical woodwork and contemporary design.

Keep the clock in a dry environment with stable humidity to prevent the timber surround from warping. Clean the glass bezel with a dry cloth, avoid harsh chemical polishes on the brass, and have the mechanical movement serviced by a professional clockmaker every five to seven years.
