This nineteenth-century Louis XV Revival mantel clock follows the Boulle style, constructed from warm brown tortoiseshell with brass marquetry, ormolu mounts, and enamel details. The straight-sided case stands on a matching plinth supported by scrolled feet, topped with a gilt bronze cherub finial holding a globe, and features an ornate cast ormolu scroll apron at the base. The round gilt dial contains individual blue enamel Roman numeral cartouches and black hands, framed by an engraved brass face with a winding keyhole visible to the right side of the main body. The clock measures 59 cm high, 28 cm wide, and 18 cm deep. Place this piece on a prominent mantelpiece in a formal living room, study, or hallway to add traditional French Chateau character to interior spaces. The compact proportions allow it to sit comfortably upon standard mantel shelves, sideboards, or console tables while serving as a functional timepiece and decorative focal point within a room.

A Boulle mantel clock is a decorative timepiece featuring a specialised marquetry technique invented by Andre-Charles Boulle, involving cut brass and tortoiseshell inlaid into a wood framework.

These clocks typically incorporate brass marquetry, tortoiseshell or horn veneer, cast gilt bronze (ormolu) mounts, and enamel dial cartouches.

Authentic pieces display intricate brass inlays fitted precisely into tortoiseshell backing, accompanied by heavy, hand-chased gilt bronze mounts and individual enamel numeral cartouches.

Position the clock as a focal decorative object on a mantelpiece, sideboard, or library desk to create historical contrast alongside clean contemporary lines.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and maintain a stable indoor climate to prevent the tortoiseshell veneer and metal inlay from lifting due to humidity fluctuations.
