Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This clear and frosted glass car mascot dates from the Art Deco period of the 1920s. The circular medallion piece stands on a stepped circular base and depicts a kneeling muscular unclothed archer with short hair, pulling back a bow and arrow in relief moulding. The clear glass body incorporates a contrasting frosted finish to the central figurative decoration, which creates depth and highlights the detailed anatomy and equipment of the archer. An intaglio moulded signature of R Lalique sits on the lower right of the front face, alongside tiny surface specks scattered throughout the clear background. Measuring 12 cm high, the object sits easily on a bookshelf or a display cabinet inside a modern home as an ornamental decorative display item.

FAQs

Introduced during the Roaring Twenties, glass car mascots were commissioned as luxury radiator ornaments for high-end automobiles. Rene Lalique produced 29 distinct car mascot designs between 1925 and 1931, ranging from speed gods and archers to falcons and dragonflies.

These ornaments were produced using heavy mould-pressed glass, combining frosted and clear finishes to emphasize anatomical or geometric details. Designed to withstand wind pressure and engine vibration, they were mounted onto custom metal bases containing small internal lighting units to illuminate the glass from beneath.

Authentic period pieces feature crisp relief details, correct glass weight, and specific hand-engraved or moulded wheel-cut signatures such as R. LALIQUE or R. LALIQUE FRANCE. Look for sharp definition in the frosted accents and original mounting wear around the flared circular base.

Glass car mascots serve as architectural table sculptures, paperweights, or illuminated shelf accents. Placing the piece on a dark wooden surface or near a direct light source highlights the contrast between the frosted relief carving and clear background.

Clean gently using lukewarm water and a mild non-abrasive detergent, using a soft microfibre cloth to remove dust from recessed moulded details. Avoid sudden temperature changes, harsh chemical cleaners, or mounting hardware that places uneven pressure on the glass rim.
