Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of Swedish bedside cupboards from 1890, created in the Gustavian style, uses pine painted in an off-white colour with gilded accents and brass hardware. Each piece stands 76 cm high, 43 cm wide, and 37 cm deep, incorporating a single top drawer above a lower cupboard door. The design includes fluted tapered legs, carved friezes beneath the cabinet body, and circular decorative hardware with rosette motifs on both the drawers and doors. The painted finish shows gentle surface wear and distress appropriate to age, complementing the vertical gilt lines along the front corners and the carved raised panels on the doors. Positioned beside a bed in a guest room or master suite, these bedside tables provide practical surface space and concealed storage for lamps, books, and night-time essentials. Their slender proportions suit smaller bedrooms or tight spaces next to antique or contemporary bed frames, bringing traditional Scandinavian character to domestic interiors.

FAQs

Originating in Sweden during the late 18th century, Gustavian style is a Scandinavian interpretation of French Neoclassicism, characterised by light-painted finishes, fluted legs, carved detailing, and symmetrical proportions.

These cupboards were typically constructed from native softwoods such as pine, finished with light-toned paint or gesso, and trimmed with carved detailing and metal hardware.

Authentic pieces generally feature hand-carved decorative motifs, hand-planed backboards, traditional mortise and tenon joinery, and layered paint showing wear on high points.

Position them symmetrically beside an upholstered bedstead topped with neutral ceramic lamps, or utilise them individually as accent end tables in a living space alongside contemporary seating.

Maintain painted surfaces by dusting regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding abrasive chemical cleaners or excessive moisture that could degrade original paint layers.
