This nineteenth-century pair of French Empire style porcelain vases stands 27 cm high, 16 cm wide, and 13 cm deep. Each piece displays a white and gold colour scheme with extensive gilding along the flared rim, swan-neck handles, pedestal foot, and square plinth base. Hand-painted equestrian scenes adorn the front and rear of the porcelain bodies, depicting riders on horseback accompanied by dogs within landscaped settings. Ideal for placement on a mantelpiece within a living room or hallway, these urns bring classical French decorative arts into a modern interior. The vases rest securely on their stepped square bases and exhibit characteristic hand-painted artwork and curved handles moulded in the form of swans, complemented by traditional white glaze and gilded detailing.

French Empire porcelain vases, popularised in the early nineteenth century, feature classical Greco-Roman shapes, pedestal plinths, gilded accents, and ornate figurative handles such as swans or caryatids.

These urns were crafted from hard-paste porcelain, painted with polychrome enamels, and detailed with hand-applied mercury gilding that was burnished to achieve a high sheen.

Authentic pieces often feature multi-part construction joined by an internal metal bolt, square porcelain plinths, age-appropriate wear to the gilding, and hand-painted central panels rather than transfer prints.

Positioning these urns symmetrically on a mantelpiece, console table, or sideboard creates structural balance and acts as a focal point within both classical and contemporary room layouts.

Dust gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or feather duster; avoid liquid cleaners, abrasive chemicals, or submersion in water, as moisture can damage the gilding and internal metal fixings.
