A four glass mantel clock, often referred to as a crystal regulator, is a type of mechanical clock enclosed in a brass and glass case that allows visibility of the movement and pendulum from all sides.

These clocks typically feature a heavy cast brass or gilded bronze frame, bevelled glass panels, a marble or slate base and top, and an enamel dial with metal hands.

Authentic pieces usually feature hand-numbered mechanical movements, mercury or compensated pendulums, fire-gilded or polished brass framing, and makers stamps from French or Swiss manufacturers dating from the late 19th to early 20th century.

Place the clock on a flat surface such as a mantelpiece, sideboard, or console table where light can pass through the glass panels, allowing it to serve as both a functional timepiece and an architectural object.

Keep the clock away from direct sunlight and moisture, handle the delicate pendulum with care during relocation, and have the mechanical movement professionally cleaned and oiled every three to five years.
