Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Meiji period cabinets are small storage chests crafted in Japan during the Meiji era (1868-1912), often featuring intricate woodwork, metal mounts, and traditional lacquer or parquetry techniques.

These cabinets are typically built from native timbers such as keyaki (elm) or hinoki, decorated with intricate yosegi-zaiku parquetry, mother-of-pearl inlay, and elaborate brass or copper hardware.

Authentic pieces generally display hand-cut joinery, aged patination on metal fittings, traditional lacquer work, and organic timber shrinkage consistent with late 19th-century craftsmanship.

Such pieces can be placed on consoles or sideboards as statement focal points, contrasting clean contemporary surfaces with rich, textured historical woodwork.

Maintain stable humidity levels away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting gently with a dry, soft cloth without applying modern chemical polishes.
