This Chinese blue and white porcelain sleeve vase belongs to the late 19th or early 20th century, created in a tribute style inspired by earlier Qing Dynasty Kangxi ceramics. The vessel uses a white ceramic body with hand-painted cobalt underglaze decoration in varying shades of deep blue. The cylindrical form displays a detailed figural scene depicting several people seated around a table outdoors, framed by architectural elements, stylized trees, and cloud motifs in the sky above. A decorative ruyi border encircles the upper rim, while a complementary band pattern finishes the lower section near the base. The white glaze shows a smooth, glossy finish typical of traditional export wares. Measuring 21 cm high, the object fits easily into display arrangements on a sideboard top within an English Country House interior. The base holds four character marks underneath the glaze. The body remains in good structural order without visible chips, cracks, or repairs.

Kangxi period porcelain, produced during the Qing Dynasty from 1662 to 1722, is recognised for its vivid underglaze blue tones painted onto refined white porcelain clay. Decorative themes frequently depict historical figures, narrative scenes, landscapes, and geometric border bands.

These vessels were formed using high-firing white porcelain clay composed of kaolin and petuntse. Artisans painted the decorative compositions directly onto the unbaked body using cobalt pigment before applying a translucent glaze and firing the vessel at elevated temperatures.

Authentic examples display painted underglaze cobalt with variations in tone and depth, complemented by specific foot rim construction and historical base marks. Examination of the glaze clarity, wear patterns, and brushwork technique helps distinguish period items from later productions.

A blue and white vase serves as a focal point when positioned on a sideboard, mantelpiece, or within open shelving. Pairing the vessel with understated modern furnishings or dark wood surfaces emphasises the contrast of the blue painted imagery.

Wipe the surface gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth to eliminate dust without applying liquid cleaners. Avoid abrasive sponges, soaking in water, or exposure to harsh chemical solutions that could damage the glazed surface.
