FAQs

Marble top bedside cabinets gained popularity in 19th-century France as a hygienic and durable surface for holding washing equipment and chamber pots before indoor plumbing became standard.

These cabinets typically feature a solid hardwood or veneer carcass, most commonly walnut, mahogany, or oak, topped with a fitted slab of natural marble.

Authenticity is indicated by hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawers, traditional timber shrinkage, original hardware, and hand-finished marble slabs with characteristic veining.

They can be integrated into modern bedrooms to provide a contrast of textures, pairing the cold marble and rich wood tones with soft linens and minimalist lighting.

Marble should be cleaned with a damp cloth and mild, pH-neutral soap, avoiding acidic substances like lemon or vinegar that can etch the polished stone surface.
