A nineteenth-century Chinese blue and white porcelain bottle vase, executed in the Qing Dynasty style, presents a pear-shaped body surmounted by a long, slender neck. The glossy ceramic body displays a white ground finished with hand-painted cobalt blue underglaze decoration. The surface features depictions of a dragon, phoenixes, and stylized cloud scrolls meandering around the body and ascending the neck, alongside a four-character Kangxi mark to the base. It stands 28 cm high. Positioned on a sideboard top, the piece integrates into an English Country House aesthetic as a decorative accent. The tall, narrow profile fits neatly on surface displays without occupying substantial space. Maintenance requires simple dusting with a dry cloth to preserve the glazed finish. The traditional motifs lend a historic element to living rooms, studies, or hallways when placed among other decorative vessels or used as a standalone display item on a timber surface.

FAQs

Chinese blue and white porcelain gained worldwide prominence during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Crafted using cobalt oxide painted beneath a translucent glaze, these wares were widely produced in Jingdezhen and exported globally.

These ceramics are crafted from kaolin porcelain clay, which fires to a dense white body. The decorative motifs are painted by hand using cobalt blue pigment before receiving a final transparent glaze.

Authentic Kangxi period ceramics typically feature vivid cobalt blue shades, refined porcelain clay, crisp glaze quality, and six-character reign marks painted on the base inside a double ring.

A blue and white porcelain vase provides architectural interest when placed on a console table, mantelpiece, or shelf. It complements neutral colour palettes, dark wood furniture, and contemporary botanical arrangements.

Clean porcelain with lukewarm water and a mild detergent, using a soft cloth without abrasive sponges. Dust regularly and avoid rapid temperature changes to maintain the integrity of the glaze.
