This 18th century Japanese Arita Imari porcelain vase exemplifies the Edo period style, measuring 70 cm high, 36 cm wide, and 36 cm deep. The baluster-form body wears a polished glaze with multicolour enamel decoration, featuring figurative cartouches depicting lake scenes and children playing, set against a rich underglaze blue and floral brocade background. Classical motifs adorn the borders, complemented by dark carved wood elements including a rounded, intricately carved wooden lid with a turned finial and a circular carved wooden display stand at the base. Suitable for placement on a sideboard top, the piece brings an English Country House design vibe to traditional or transitional interior spaces. The dark timber finishes contrast with the white, blue, red, and green tones of the porcelain surface, offering a balanced composition of hand-carved woodwork and glazed ceramic craftsmanship. The vase and its fitted wooden components stand ready for display as a decorative centrepiece in a dining room, hallway, or living area.

Imari porcelain, originating from the Arita region in Japan, is recognised for its distinct palette featuring underglaze cobalt blue combined with overglaze iron red, gold, and enamel accents, widely exported to Europe during the Edo period.

These vessels are formed from high-fired kaolin clay, painted with underglaze cobalt blue before initial firing, and subsequently decorated with overglaze enamel pigments and gilding prior to secondary low-temperature firings.

Authentic 18th-century pieces typically exhibit slight irregularities in the surface glaze, evidence of hand-painted brushwork rather than transfer printing, characteristic spur marks on the base, and age-appropriate wear to the overglaze enamels.

Positioned as a focal decorative object on a sideboard, fireplace mantel, or within a curated display cabinet, an Imari vase introduces rich historical colour contrast and texture to modern or classic settings.

Dust gently using a soft microfibre cloth or dry natural bristle brush, avoiding liquid immersion or abrasive chemical cleaning agents that could erode the delicate overglaze enamels and timber components.
