Art Nouveau cameo glass emerged during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, heavily influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement and nature-inspired motifs. Master glassmakers utilised multi-layered acid-etching and carving techniques to create high-relief floral and botanical designs.

Daum cameo glass is crafted from multiple layers of coloured or enamelled glass fused together while hot. Artisans then apply acid-resistant varnishes and use repeated acid-bath etchings, often finished with wheel-carving and enamel detailing, to reveal the contrasting background colours.

Authentic pieces typically feature distinct makers signatures, such as Daum Nancy etched or enamelled on the base or body. Genuine items exhibit crisp relief work, polished pontil marks on the underside, and colour transitions characteristic of turn-of-the-century glassworks.

An antique art glass vase serves as a focal point when displayed on neutral surfaces like timber sideboards or marble mantelpieces where light can pass through the translucent layers. Pairing it with minimalist contemporary surroundings accentuates the intricate coloured motifs without visual clutter.

Antique glass should be washed by hand using lukewarm water and mild, non-abrasive detergent, avoiding harsh chemicals or sudden temperature changes. Always dry with a soft lint-free cloth and lift the object by its base rather than the rim to prevent damage.
