Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. FAQs

Rajasthani merchant trunks were traditionally used by traders and merchants in the desert regions of India to securely transport and store currency, documents, and valuable commodities. These items often featured robust iron construction overlaid with brass ornamentation to reflect the status and wealth of the owner.

These pieces typically comprise a hand-beaten iron armature or wooden core clad in sheet iron, adorned with meticulously engraved or inlaid brass panels. Traditional construction involved hand-riveting, forging, and intricate chasing work executed by regional artisans.

Authenticity is determined by examining the patination of the metals, the hand-hammered tool marks, traditional joinery such as hand-cut rivets, and the genuine wear consistent with age and utilitarian use. True period pieces display organic oxidisation rather than artificial distressing.

This piece works effectively as a focal point on a console table or bookshelf, introducing textural contrast and global heritage to contemporary spaces. Its metallic finish complements neutral palettes and dark wood furniture alike.

Preserve the metal surfaces by dusting gently with a dry, soft cloth and avoiding chemical cleaners that can strip the natural patina. Keep the object in a stable environment away from excess moisture to prevent further oxidation.
