M. C. Taylor has dated this Satinwood Fusee Library Clock to the 19th Century.
The 8 day duration, chain fusee movement Anchor Recoil escapement having unusual pallets.
Behind a well-executed, 3 1/2" square, engine turned and gilded brass dial with written Roman hour numerals and cut steel hands the hour of which being trefoil style. This is behind a cast brass, chamfered sight frame set within the locking front glazed door.
In a satinwood 5-glass case of good colour. The flat top having a thick and bevelled glass panel which is repeated to both sides. Both doors are locking and glazed. below the top is a small Cavetto moulding above a rippled moulding and below the front door is a large ogee moulding above a short plinth with a simply moulded top. This sits upon 4 squashed bun feet.
There is an old trade paper stuck to the inside of the case that states the movement was cleaned in July, 1858 - probably its first maintenance.
Dimensions: 9" high x 6 3/8" wide x 4 7/8" deep.
Condition: The movement is working very well and keeping accurate time however, it really would benefit from a complete overhaul. The dial is quite good but original. The case is sound and of good colour and patina however, the French polish has perished and if it were re-polished it would transform it's appearance. Both of the locks are working.
