Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Cut glass carafes became prominent during the 18th and 19th centuries, particularly throughout the Georgian, Victorian, and Edwardian eras. Craftsmen carved intricate geometric motifs into thick lead crystal to catch and refract light, creating functional serving vessels for dining tables and bedside nightstands.

Historically, high-grade lead crystal or heavy soda glass was mouth-blown into shape and allowed to cool. Artisans then used copper wheels and abrasive pastes to cut precise geometric facets, diamonds, and flutes into the surface before hand-polishing the glass.

Authentic antique cut glass typically features crisp, sharp edges along the cut facets rather than the soft, rounded edges typical of pressed glass. Older lead crystal pieces are noticeably heavy, resonate with a clear ringing tone when tapped, and may display subtle wear marks or a polished pontil mark on the base.

An antique cut glass carafe functions well as a bedside water vessel, a sideboard accent piece, or a stem holder for fresh blooms. Grouping clear glass vessels together on a tray allows natural light to bounce through the cut facets, creating depth on surfaces.

Hand wash antique glass in warm water using a mild liquid detergent and a soft sponge, avoiding dishwashers which can cloud or chip delicate crystal. To remove water marks from inside the vessel, soak with a solution of warm water and white vinegar or uncooked rice before rinsing thoroughly.
