This pair of late nineteenth-century French Sevres style porcelain lidded vases exemplifies the Rococo Revival style, standing 114 cm high, 40 cm wide, and 40 cm deep. Each piece combines white porcelain bodies, cobalt blue grounds, and gilt ornamentation, topped with turned pinecone finials and raised on square metal bases. The bodies display hand-painted romantic courting scenes signed by E. Carell, framed by extensive gold leaf highlighting against deep blue and multi-coloured painted reserves. Positioned on a mantelpiece, these urns suit a French chateau aesthetic within a formal interior setting. The detailed classical gilded decoration, rotating sockel pedestal bases, and contrasting blue and white sections complete the composition.

Late 19th-century Sevres style porcelain refers to ceramics produced in the manner of the French Royal Manufactory, defined by deep cobalt blue grounds, hand-applied gilding, and painted romantic vignettes inspired by 18th-century art.

These vessels are crafted from porcelain, decorated with enamel glazes and gold leaf gilding, and mounted onto cast metal or bronze bases and rims.

Pieces from this period frequently display pseudo-intertwined L marks or painter signatures on the undersides, accompanied by hand-painted details rather than modern printed transfers.

A pair of decorative urns can be arranged symmetrically on a fireplace mantelpiece, sideboard top, or central console to establish formal balance in a contemporary room.

Porcelain surface areas should be dusted using a dry microfibre cloth or soft brush, avoiding liquid cleaners, abrasives, or moisture near metal mounts to prevent oxidisation and gilt wear.
