Antique Double Fusee Gilt Bronze Figural Clock By James Murray London Ormolu.

This lovely antique mantel clock has a gilt bronze case with a lovely colour. This top of the case then has a lovely figure of a man and a woman cast in exceptional detail. The figures are depicted wearing traditional clothes with the woman holding a basket of fruit and the man depicted holding brushes and paint showing he is an artist. The figures are incorporated beautifully with the man sat on the movement housing with one foot on a small stool. The base is then rectangular with a fabulous patterned design to the front and sides. Finally the clock has beautiful scrolling, patterned feet.

The dial is then enamel and set out in black Roman numerals with a thin ring of dashes to the outside marking the minutes. The dial then has a small “FAST” and “SLOW” meter to the top. Finally the dial is singed by the maker to the centre “JAS MURRAY 1 ROYAL EXCHANGE LONDON” and is finished by two shaped fingers.

The movement is then a double chain fusee example of the upmost quality and ticks aways as it should. The dial then strikes the number of hours via a bell. The movement comes complete with its pendulum and winding key. The movement is then also signed by the maker “James Murray 1 Royal Exchange LONDON” showing the dial and movement to be totally original. Finally the movement has a strike silent feature via the small rectangular piece of brass to the back of the case which moves left and right to turn the strike silent on and off.

“James Murray (& Co) worked in London from 1828-1881 as noted in Loomes 'Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World' book.”

It is listed for collection in person due to its delicate nature although UK delivery can be organised, please don’t hesitate to get in touch for a quote.
