Early 19th Century Rosewood Brass Writing Cabinet

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Walton House Antiques

The side cabinet is petite and well drawn with a gilt brass gallery fitted to the top tier. The top tier is supported by gilt brass and tapered columns and original mirror plates to the back board. The mercury plates are framed and mounted on rosewood mouldings and gilt brass edging. The gilt brass edging can only be appreciated when you are looking for it.

The gallery sits above two short brass inlaid mahogany lined drawers. The contra partie inlay is crisply cut and finely inlaid and features on the full length single pull out drawer. The brass strung inlay top is hinged and lifts away to reveal a leather top writing surface. The single drawer pulls out as a support for the writing top.

The cupboard doors open to reveal simulated rosewood shelves. The arched dome doors have recently been silked with pleats within the arched pediments. The rosewood veneered doors have been brass strung and the petite side cabinet stands on brass mounted solid rosewood bulbous shaped feet.
