Here we have a truly outstanding piece of work by Shapland and Petter of Barnstaple c1900. As you can see this sideboard or dresser has wonderful colour and patina. This sideboard is certainly of exhibition quality throughout. We start with a fantastic choice in English Oak timbers of which every inch has been quarter sawn to show off the lovely Medullary rays within the Oak grain. There are over reaching pediments to the top cupboards with a wavy gallery between. The cupboards retain the original glass and handles and have the most outstanding Copper raised and peirced decoration to the front. There are well turned supports below and beautifully inlaid panels behind. The centre top houses the original bevelled mirror plate. There is a two plank top to the base again quarter sawn for maximum effect. There is an over reaching moulding and two drawers below. The drawers retain the original handles and again are inlaid with speciman woods. There is space below the left hand drawer and two cupboards again with original handles and beautiful inlay. Splits in two for ease of moving. This is Shapland and Petter at their very best. A super period piece by a fantastic maker in great retail condition ready for your home. The dimensions are approx 178 cm high 153 cm wide 61 cm deep.
