Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Popular throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, tabletop cabinets were designed to sit on larger furniture surfaces to secure small personal belongings, jewellery, or documents. These miniature cupboards often mirrored full-scale furniture styles of their respective periods, showcasing fine woodworking techniques on a smaller scale.

Craftsmen typically utilized primary hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, or walnut, combining them with contrasting inlay woods like satinwood or boxwood. Additional components frequently included bevelled glass mirror panels, fabric linings, and cast brass mountings or feet.

Authentic pieces generally display signs of age, including natural oxidisation of the wood, slight variations in hand-cut marquetry veneer, and original brass fittings with aged patina. Examining the underside and back boards for period-appropriate joinery and natural timber shrinkage also aids identification.

A tabletop cabinet can be positioned as a focal point on a hallway console, sideboard, or dressing table. Pairing the piece with clean-lined contemporary artwork or modern ceramics creates a balanced visual contrast between period detailing and modern design.

Regular dusting with a dry, non-abrasive microfibre cloth maintains the timber surface. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or excess moisture, applying a high-grade beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year to preserve the wood finish and prevent the inlay from drying out.
