French Marquetry Side Cabinet Attributed to Joseph Cremer

19th century
Description

An exceptional exhibition quality French ebonised and marquetry inlaid side cabinet attributed to Joseph Cremer. The floral marquetry on this cabinet is of outstanding quality. The panels are made up of at least ten different woods and some dyed woods which form an intricate floral display to the front and sides.

The cabinet has deeply chased bronze gilt ormolu mounts and mouldings and brass string inlay with a demi god mask to the centre of the plinth base. Inside the cabinet is a polished mahogany interior with two shelves and a full length drawer to the frieze with original working lock and key.

The Cabinet has a later white carrara marble top.

Joseph Cremer was born in 1811 to Flemish parents and was known to be one of the best marqueteurs of the 19th century. He supplied furniture to King Louis-Philippe of France and the King of Holland. He won many awards at the Paris exhibitions and also in London. Examples of his work can be seen at the Musee d'Orsay in Paris. Cremer died in 1878.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
