Unusual Double Sided Miniature Chest of Drawers

A very unusual and fine miniature mahogany chest of drawers that is double sided. The construction of the chest is so that the drawers go right through and are finished on both sides, so can be used from both sides. I have not seen this configuration before and can only imagine that it would be placed centrally on a table or desk and the drawers could be accessed from all sides. There are three long drawers and then two rows of two short drawers, though one side of these are double deep. It is a most unusual miniature chest of drawers and must have been a special commission or apprentice piece . The mahogany is all good quality and has a great untouched colour and patina. The knobs are the original and are most likely turned boxwood that has been coloured a mahogany colour. The whole is in excellent untouched condition with just some minor repairs. A great and quirky antique chest with huge amounts of character. C.1840.
