Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in 18th-century France, Louis XVI style garnitures are distinguished by classical symmetry, antique motifs, and refined metalwork. They typically feature a central mantelpiece clock flanked by two matching candelabra or vases, showcasing neoclassical themes such as putti, classical drapery, and acanthus scrollwork.

High-end French clock sets of the 19th century utilised fine gilt bronze, also known as ormolu, often contrasted against dark patinated bronze or marble bases. The clock dials were usually made of white enamel with painted Roman or Arabic numerals and fitted with brass mechanical movements.

Authentic period pieces exhibit precise hand-chasing on the metalwork, heavy solid bronze castings, and original mercury gilding which develops a soft, deep lustre over time. Look for maker stamps or foundry marks on the back of the clock movement or underneath the bronze castings.

A traditional garniture set is best displayed symmetrically along a fireplace mantelpiece or atop a grand dining room sideboard. Flanking the clock with its matching candelabra creates an elegant focal point that grounds decorative mirrors or framed artwork above.

Dust bronze sculptures regularly with a soft, dry camel-hair brush, avoiding abrasive polishes or chemical cleaners that can strip original gilding or patination. Mechanical clock movements require periodic professional servicing by a horologist to maintain operational accuracy.
