Description:
This is a superb quality pair of antique Victorian flame mahogany adapted bedside chests, circa 1860, in excellent condition. They are pedestals from a Victorian dressing table, which have been adapted into bedside chests some time ago. Each bedside chest boasts elegant chamfered moulded round cornered tops; this design is also reflected in the plinths. Additionally, the tops include up stands to the rear, to prevent items from rolling off the back. The bedsides each have four graduated working drawers below. The drawers all retain their original working locks; there is also a working key. The drawers are constructed with fine hand-dovetailed joints; mahogany drawer linings and the original carved foliate mahogany handles. The drawer linings even boast quarter beading to the frames; this is a true sign of quality. The bedsides stand on their original top quality rounded mahogany plinths. The chests are constructed of top quality flame mahogany timber imported from the colonies during the Victorian period. Flame mahogany timber is far more sought after and desirable than plain mahogany grain. The quality is reflected in the weight of these bedsides; they are heavy to lift!

Condition Report:
These bedside chests are in excellent condition having been polished in our workshop. They are pedestals from a Victorian dressing table, which have been adapted into bedside chests some time ago. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. There are no cup marks to the tops of the bedsides. Please note, any colour variation to the tops of the bedsides is due to the natural variation in the grain configuration and patination; this is not a defect or marks to the polish – this is entirely natural. The drawers are smooth running and close flush to the frame. All drawers retain their original carved handles and working locks, also with a working key. These bedsides are constructed of top quality flame mahogany; the flame mahogany which gives a superb colour and patination. The quality is reflected in the weight of these bedsides; they are heavy to lift! They are solid in joint and ready to use.
