Carse Antiques has dated this piece to the Regency era.
The base section has two doors with ebony stringing and original brass grills with red material behind. Triple reed mould to the base with original turned mahogany short legs with internal brass castors. Above the cupboards there is a fully fitted drawer with fully adjustable leather sliding writing and reading slope. The drawers retains a pull out smaller drawer at the front right which is fitted with an ink bottle and various section for pens etc. There is also the original lift out moulded mahogany book stop. The drawer is ebony strung and retains its original brass knobs and lock with working original key.
The top section is a beautiful shape with large scroll shape shelf supports with original turned patera and original brass rods at the ends. The shelves have a matching triple reed moulded edge and the top has its original gilded brass gallery which is also a very nice design.
The whole piece is a lovely colour with good patination and is in very good condition. Both the cupboard doors to the base have working locks with keys. One lock is a later Victorian one and both keys are later.
