This is a superb quality pair of antique Victorian flame mahogany bedside chests, circa 1860, in excellent condition. Each bedside chest boasts elegant chamfered moulded round cornered tops; this design is reflected in the design of the plinths. The bedsides each have four graduated working drawers below. The top drawer features the original working locks, brass escutcheon and a working key. The drawers are constructed with hand-dovetailed joints, mahogany drawer linings and the original turned mahogany knobs. The drawer linings even feature quarter beading to the frames; which is a true sign of quality. The bedsides stand on their original top quality rounded mahogany plinths. The chests are constructed of top quality solid mahogany timber imported from the colonies during the Victorian period. The quality is reflected in the weight of these bedsides; they are heavy to lift!

The bedsides feature a dark rich, yet classic, red and brown mahogany colour. They have a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.

Condition Report:

These adapted bedside chests are in excellent condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. There are no cup marks, ink stains or other types of marks to the tops of the bedsides. Please note, any colour variation to the tops of the bedsides is due to the natural variation in the grain configuration and patination; this is not a defect or marks to the polish – this is entirely natural. The drawers are smooth running and close flush to the frame. The top drawer features its original working lock, with a key. These bedsides are constructed of top quality solid mahogany; the flame mahogany gives a superb colour and patination. The quality is reflected in the weight of these bedsides; they are heavy to lift! They are solid in joint and ready to use.
