This is a superb quality pair of antique Victorian mahogany adapted bedside chests, circa 1870.
They each have three graduated working drawers with hand dovetailed joints, mahogany drawer linings and the original brass swan neck handles. The drawer linings feature quartered beading to the drawer frames (a sign of quality). Each of the drawers features a working lock; there is also a working key. The drawer fronts are decorated with the original elegant brass swan neck handles. Each bedside chest boasts elegant chamfered moulded round cornered tops with a chamfered up-stand at the back (ideal for stopping items falling down the back of the bedsides when in situ). The bedsides stand on the original good quality rounded mahogany plinths. Both chests are constructed of good quality solid mahogany timber; the drawer fronts are finished with a good quality mahogany. The quality is reflected in the weight of these bedsides; they are heavy to lift! During this period, England imported good quality timber from its colonies.

The bedsides feature a dark rich, yet classic, red and brown mahogany colour. They have a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.

Condition Report:
These bedside chests are in excellent condition having been polished in our workshop. They are pedestals from a Victorian dressing table, which have been adapted into bedside chests some time ago. Nominal old use marks, mainly to the leading edges, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. There are no cup marks, ink stains or other types of marks to the tops of the bedsides. The drawers are smooth running and close flush to the frame. Each drawer features a working lock; there is a working key. The drawers are mahogany lined and hand dovetailed, which is a sign of quality. These bedsides are constructed of good quality mahogany; the mahogany gives a superb colour and patination. The quality is reflected in the weight of these bedsides; they are heavy to lift! They are solid in joint and ready to use.
