This is a superb quality pair of antique Victorian flame mahogany bedside chests, circa 1860.
The top drawer in each bedside features a working lock and a key. Each bedside chest boasts traditional round cornered moulded edges to the top and the bedsides sit on the original rounded plinths. Both chests are constructed of top quality solid mahogany timber; the drawer fronts are finished with a superb flame mahogany. The quality is reflected in the weight of these bedsides; they are heavy to lift! During this period, England was imported top quality timber from its colonies.
The bedsides feature a rich, yet classic, red and brown mahogany colour. They have a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
Condition Report:
These adapted bedside chests are in excellent condition. Nominal old use marks but nothing significant considering the age of the item. There are no cup marks, ink stains or other types of marks to the tops of the bedsides. The drawers are smooth running and close flush to the frame. The top drawers to each bedside feature a working lock and a key. The drawers are oak lined and hand dovetailed, which is a sign of superb quality. These bedsides are constructed of top quality mahogany; the mahogany gives a superb colour and patination. The quality is reflected in the weight of these bedsides; they are heavy to lift! They are solid in joint and ready to use.
